Hot on the heels of their recent success in the National Farm Attraction of the Year Awards, aMaizin! has become the first attraction in Jersey to be granted a silver award in the Green Tourism Business Scheme, a national format.
Carlton and Kristina Le Feuvre, Directors and Owners of aMaizin! Adventure Park, are delighted to have achieved a high level in this award in recognition of the green practises of the business
“Whilst we are a natural attraction, this award encompassed many areas” said Kristina. “We had an audit of our Snack Shack, Staff cottages, barnyard, shop, adventure park, reservoir and all surrounding areas – even down to the car-park and toilets!” she said.
The audit was conducted as a pilot scheme in conjunction with Jersey Tourism and the first results are now being issued.
Carlton Le Feuvre said “Dripping taps, electricity wastage and waste costs a business money and much of our daily best practice routines were synonymous with what the auditor was looking for when marking our business for this award.”

What's Green about aMaizin! Adventure Park?
(Direct quote from Green Business in their initial report)
An excellent visitor attraction which is a full day out for any families. It rivals Pennywell Park and Crealy in Devon as a family activity centre with a strong eco related mission. Experiences are great exercise and the maze is well thought out and connects with other elements like use of corn starch in materials/gifts. Shop has included ethically sourced products and the cafe is working with local suppliers. The owners are ambassadors for Jersey and have developed a super green file and team to support incorporating good environmental practices. Excellent education experience based around fun and discovery which will become increasingly important experiences for families in Jersey. http://www.green-business.co.uk/Jersey2.asp

Jersey Tourism is delighted that aMaizin! has achieved a silver rating and that it is the first Jersey visitor attraction participating in the pilot study to do so.
The Green Tourism Business Scheme is the national sustainable tourism certification scheme for the UK. Originally developed in partnership with Visit Scotland, it is now the only certification scheme validated by Visit Britain, through the International Centre for Responsible Tourism (ICRT).
Businesses opting to join Green Tourism are assessed by a qualified grading advisor against a rigorous set of criteria, covering a range of areas, like energy and water efficiency, waste management, biodiversity and more. Those businesses that meet the required standard, receive a Bronze, Silver, or Gold award based on their level of achievement.
The pilot study, which has been funded by the Tourism Development Fund, will end in 2009 and 14 local tourism businesses have participated.
